Transport Manager Position Overview

My client are currently recruiting for a Transport Manager, in this role the successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing and directing all transport related processes and staff. Their primary duties include planning, co-ordinating and controlling all steps in the transportation process to ensure orders are delivered safely, cost effectively, on time, and ensuring compliance with current regulations. This position would suit an experienced transport manager or a senior transport planner.
Responsibilities include:

  • The management of a fleet of vehicles, ensuring optimal utilisation and reduced downtime.
  • Ensuring vehicles are properly maintained, are safe, and meet legal requirements, arranging repairs and routine maintenance when necessary.
  • The planning, scheduling, and optimisation of multi-drop delivery routes whilst considering any restrictions, such as delivery windows or special delivery instructions.
  • Organising and supervising the loading of delivery vehicles and departure of the drivers.
  • Ensuring customer orders are delivered on time, cost effectively and that quality standards and targets are met.
  • Assessing and organising resource requirements including staff, vehicles, and equipment.
  • The monitoring and management of costs and the implementation of strategies and processes to help reduce such costs.
  • Regularly reviewing and implementing the company's policies and procedures, whilst ensuring the company adheres to current regulations.
  • The monitoring and reporting of key transport metrics.
  • The motivation of all drivers and ensuring they have the correct, up to date training and qualifications.
  • Establish and enforce strict driver performance standards, ensuring drivers work according to the detailed instructions in the Delivery Drivers' Handbook.
  • The maintaining and completion of records, ensuring drivers complete all paperwork accurately, legibly and within an appropriate time scale.
  • Co-ordinate with other departments to make recommendations to ensure efficient utilisation of drivers and resources.
  • Making deliveries as and when required.
  • The monitoring and control of tray stock levels.
  • Ensuring staff working practices do not endanger themselves or others and that COSHH information is read and understood before handling chemicals.
  • To co-operate with the Employer to meet Legal Requirements in accordance with Health and Safety at Work Act 1990
  • To work within the work instructions, guidelines and reporting arrangements laid out in companies Quality Manual.

Transport Manager Position Requirements

  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of transport management.
  • Understanding of driving and health & safety regulations.
  • Experience in reporting on key transportation metrics.
  • The ability to act decisively and solve staff or equipment-related problems with a results-driven approach.
  • IT literacy and experience with various technologies and programmes.
  • Attention to detail to ensure consistent high levels of efficiency.
  • The ability to communicate clearly and persuasively with your team.

  • The ability to work under pressure and multitask.
  • Leadership skills and the ability to motivate others to meet deadlines and targets.
  • The ability to work in a logical, systematic manner.

Transport Manager Position Remuneration

  • Salary of £35,000- £40,000 DOE
